Bug Description

Binary package hint: gimp

Looks like the default menu name for GIMP has changed from "GIMP Image Editor" (in gutsy) to "GNU Image Manipulation Program" (in hardy alpha 4). Given that all the other default programs installed in the ubuntu menu follow a format like "F-Spot Photo Manager", "Brasero Disc Burning", etc, renaming the menu item back to "GIMP Image Editor" would make everything look more consistent and friendlier for new users!

I second that too. People know the programm as GIMP - that's why the acronym should be used in the menu.

Confirming, the current name does not comply with the GNOME HIG.
Related bugs are bug #185222 and bug #184238 (both have been fixed).

Upstream's desktop.in.in has always had name set to "GNU Image Manipulation Program". The patch 03_gimp.desktop.in.in.patch modified this to be "GIMP Image Editor". This patch seems to have been dropped by mistake in Hardy (the changelog mentions it being applied).
