Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read 'How to report bugs effectively' http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

Usando escala fraccional al 125 % en un monitor con resolución 1080p . No
puedo ver videos a pantalla completa en firefox por de repente escala a 300
% . Algo similar ocurre con juegos de steam a pantalla completa. En
chromium no se producen errores.

Sounds like this was bug 1862081.

Please update your system:

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

and if the problem still happens then run this command:

  apport-collect 1871849

I already thought of that. This doesn't seem to be a duplicate of bug 1862081 because the reporter already has that fix.

The problem with OBS is a different issue, and possibly not a bug at all. It's probably not realistic to modify all screen recording apps to understand Ubuntu's Xrandr scaling feature. If you would like to discuss it further then please open a new bug by running:

Unfortunately, there's no other option than doing this or you'd loose the direct rendering performances, so this is an expected behavior.

What we could do is to be smarter at picking the scaling value for the monitor. And I've already started some work for this.

How can be this issue be expected behavior? Can't you just disable resizing for full screen applications when fractional scaling is enabled?

Well, I was thinking about that, but it also causes slowdown in games and D-R videos, so while resizing the UI might be not optimal it also allows better performances in such scenarios.

Sounds pretty weird to me that lower performance in games is worse than not rescaling UI. I think that most of us use Ubuntu to work and everyday usage, not for games

I don't agree we shouldn't target games.

However, maybe we can maybe black-list some video players and browsers. Not sure that would break webgl though.

For fullscreen apps that don't have an absolute scale it makes a lot of sense to treat those as native resolution, without any fractional scaling. Because their visual elements are measured as a fraction of the screen size, meaning they're scale-less. So giving the user the maximum resolution and the ability to unredirect for maximum performance makes the most sense.

I have the same problem using Davinci Resolve in fullscreen mode, as well as VLC. With two 27" 4K monitors it's impossible to use any other scaling factor except 150%.

This cause Steam, Dolphin and Lutris/Wine games not to cover all the screen/looks cropped. It also causes screens to go black. Moreover, multi-monitor settings also randomly change.
