I do update some every two days and never have had such problem. I am afraid
that by purging grub my system will not start again.

The grub package in question is absolutely not used on your system. It
can't be, you have no menu.lst, which is the config file grub uses to know
what to boot.

I don't know why you have the 'grub' package installed. It is never
installed by default on an Ubuntu 16.04 system. The package name for grub
in 16.04 is 'grub-pc'.

Of course I have grub in my system since first installation of Ubuntu
because I have still a windows partition and one more Linux partition. Grub
was always updated till this update.
I do have menu.lst see the enclosure.

The file under /usr/share/doc/grub/examples is irrelevant. You do not have a menu.lst file in */boot/grub*, so grub1 is not used for boot.

The correct solution is as I stated, to remove the grub package from your system.
