Bug Description

I use Ubuntu Mate 18.04. When I press one of the mouse buttons (frequently the middle one I remember) and one of the Ctrl/Shift/Alt keys on keyboard at the same time in a program, the program keeps its control state when I finish hold down all buttons (sometimes). You can close a desktop window and you can start a new program (by pressing an icon in the Mate panel only). Neither the Mate menu is reachable nor the desktop's context menu. In the Firefox webbrowser the menus are reachable. All keyboard inputs are disabled in all programs.
When I press the logout button (I put an icon to the Mate panel, otherwise I couldn't log out) and start the desktop again after log in, all is working well (until...). Maybe it's something with the kbd/mouse event managing in Mate, I don't know.
I started an X-session with the xterm only and then mate-session on its command line for displaying debug messages. None of the messages warn about this strange behavior.

Here are all my installed programs, maybe this helps.
Additionally installed by hand are:
- audio-recorder (compiled by myself)
- renoise software
- VMware Workstation 12.5.8 (patched for the current kernel)
- some Mate themes
- some fonts

There is another behavior: Audacious remember its current song position, when the problem occurs (as if Audacious would gone to pause mode). Audacious plays all songs again while I do nothing after the problem occurs. When I re-login Audacous doesn't remember all played songs before I logged out, it starts playing at the song position I described first.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. I've checked if it's the same behavior as Matt described in bug #1734271.
I can't reproduce his behavior. The desktop works again with no limitations. I supposed that the freezing event is dependent on other input conditions. I'll check if my problem is reproducible.

The freeze event occurs again. I pressed [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[left mouse button]. Programs are callable from an icon of the desktop or panel but not from the menu. I can switch to the text terminal with [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F1] and switch back again to the desktop but other typed characters in a text line are ignored. The /var/log/syslog messages at this time shows:

Feb 10 18:16:33 pyrimea lightdm[1816]: Error updating user /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1000: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Keine derartige Schnittstelle »org.freedesktop.DisplayManager.AccountsService«

('Keine derartige Schnittstelle' = 'no such interface')

But I think that's not really helpful.

Yes, it is mate-hud. A 'killall mate-hud' brings back the desktop.

Update to day from 17.10 to 18.04
