I am experiencing the same problem.

I upgraded from 16.04 LTS. I have other add-ons than Enigmail (and maybe some default add-on that Ubuntu delivers).

I only have IMAP of two GMail accounts.

When I delete ~/.thunderbird and launch it, and then add my GMail account, then it already crashes on the first attempt of synchronizing. In the terminal, it is displaying the following:

What recent update solved the problem? I have a fully updated 16.10 install and Thunderbird crashes constantly after 1-2 minutes. It's my work e-mail so this is bad.

I downloaded directly from Mozilla.org (link in #8) and ran it. No crash, so this is the Ubuntu package being broken. At least I can get work done now.

I have configured the origins of software on the primary server, and updates to be installed when available. Also I have version 45.3.0

Yesterday's Ubuntu update did not fix this bug. It goes one step further, however, and I can see the add-on check being done, and the main window briefly appears, and then it crashes.

However, I was able to right-click on the Thunderbird icon, select "Compose New Message", and this worked.

But alas, right now Thunderbird on Ubuntu is still very much broken.

Hello.

I Still have this problem with Thunderbird on Ubuntu 16.10 :
- with 1 gmail account, Thunderbird is ok
- with 2 gmail accounts, Thunderbird crashes.
However my Thunderbird package is 1:45.5.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.10.1.

I have the same bug on Ubuntu 14.04.

So the bug hasn't been fixed... Any solution ?
