[Xubuntu only] Non-translatable labels and launchers

Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings

In this package, every file in /etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/ contains hardcoded strings which are not translatable through Rosetta.

launcher-2.rc:
  line 2: "Name=Web browser"
  line 6: "Comment=Firefox web browser"

launcher-3.rc:
  line 2: "Name=Help"
  line 6: "Comment=Xubuntu Desktop Guide"

places-2.rc:
  line 3: "label=Places"

xfce4-menu-1.rc:
  line 5: "button_title=Applications"

That's because the label is hardcoded in the config file (button_title entry in ~/.config/xfce4/panel/xfce4-menu-*.rc or /etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/xfce4-menu-1.rc).

Tha'ts a big localization problem. The menu button is perfectly visible at any moment.

Removing the bitesize tag, this is really not easy to fix AFAICT.

bump. I think this is more important than 'low'. If one has installed a localized version and starts - the only string one sees on the desktop is not translated (applications)!! For some more info, see http://risto.kurppa.fi/blog/translating-the-xubuntu-applications-menu-button

This is not low priority, it should be high since it affects EVERYONE that runs Xubuntu in non-English languages

This is now possible with Xfce 4.6. I'll try to set up xubuntu-default-settings correctly, and open it for translations. However, it's too late for jaunty, it should be available for karmic, and maybe with a SRU for jaunty...

Done in lp:~mrpouit/xubuntu-default-settings/translatable-launchers. I've uploaded the POT file on https://translations.launchpad.net/xubuntu-default-settings. As soon as it's accepted, it should be available for translation.

It's too late for jaunty anyway, and it required a lot of changes to xubuntu-default-settings, so we'll see for karmic. As soon as they are translated, these launchers can probably be updated in jaunty with a SRU (it should be suitable for a SRU if we update only the launchers and not the whole packaging).

  * Makefile: added (useful to generate rc files without cluttering
    debian/rules file).
  * debian/rules: call $(MAKE) once instead of multiple dh_install.
  * debian/control:
    - bump debhelper dependency to >= 7 for dh_prep
    - build-depend on intltool.
