Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 after the network upgrade from 14.10.
The wireless connection doesn't work on my Notebook Acer Travelmate 5720G

The cable connection (eg: eth0 interface ) works.

With Ubuntu 14.10 the wifi connection was ok.

Network Manager find successfully all the available wireless networks on start-up, but when i try to connect with one of them, Network-manager ALWAYS display the "connecting..." animated icon and doesn't connect (i can't access to internet and not even to my Access point admin page).
Opening the network-manager menu show the "Disconnect" menu entry (like when you are connected, but you are not connected).

My access point (Digicom Michelangelo wave 150 C) uses wpa2 encryption.
I haven't done no harware modifications (i use the same builtin wireless network card provided by my notebook).

Using the same wireless access point with another notebook (Toshiba Tecra with Ubuntu 14.10) everything is ok.

I have tryed to disconnect/reconnect the wireless, reinstall the network-manager.. but with no results.

------ Imortant: -------------------
I have discovered that the "Additional Driver tool" allow to enable/disable an additional driver named "Processor microcode firmware for intel CPU (proprietary)".

I have done a test running a fresh ubuntu 15.04 live cd: i can't connect to wireless, but enabling the above Intel driver i can connect !

Repeating the same test with the installed ubuntu 15.04 i was able to connect only a couple of times (i have tryed to enable/disable the driver after a kernel update from the Ubuntu update manager, but with no result).

Disabling the Intel driver happen the same situation described above (ie: always "trying to connect")
---------------------------------------

No system crash or other problems are shown.

Here iwconfig output:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:off/any
             Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=15 dBm
             Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
             Power Management:off

The uname -a output is:
Linux my-pc 3.19.0-22-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 16 17:14:22 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

network-manager version installed is: 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu15.1

Before submitting the bug I have installed all the available updates at 15 july 2015 but the problem persist.

This bug is filled against the wrong package, "intel-microcode" is only related to CPU microcode, not to wireless card microcode, or drivers...

I do not know to which package this bug should be reassigned.

fulvio, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Vivid reached EOL on February 4, 2016.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If this is still an issue, could you please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1475042

no longer affects: intel-microcode (Ubuntu)
affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
