Bug Description

Using windows 7 64 bit professional version, after applying several filters the screen stops rendering the filters and continues to display the same picture. If I bring up the object properties, and click hide and then unclick hide, then it renders the new filter correctly. I reinstalled several times with different versions of the .91 version, all produced the same thing. Could not use the .91 version because of this. I installed the .48 32 bit version, reproduced the exact same filter sequence, and that version worked perfectly. So it may be that there is an issue with your 64 bit version and my cpu and/or 64 bit? I have an Intel Core i7 5820K Hawswell, 32 GB memory. Asustek x99-A motherboard.

I just tried this on a different computer with Windows 7 32 bit, and the same thing happened, so it does not appear to be my computer. To replicate the problem easily, first create a 3D box, then apply filter "Material-> 3D Marble" which will work, then apply filter "Morphology->Black Hole" which does not work. In fact, no filters subsequently will work. One also cannot fix the problem by using the left and right arrows to move the object hoping it will re-render correctly. All that I could get it to work was clicking "hide" and then unclock hide which is a mess. I'm guessing that this is due to a very recent release, as I haven't seen it discussed as a past problem.

Is this limited in your experience to 3dbox elements? If so, it looks like related to (or a duplicate of)

It is a different effect so it may or may not be related to how you resolved the filter in 1425542. In 1425542 they created a new filter after a group.

I uninstalled the 91 version and reverted to .48 version so can't produce the test case right now using the 91 version, but I can reinstall the .91 version if you can't see it.In my bug,  But you can easily recreate the situation as follows 1) create a 3d box, then 2) applied first the filter: Materials->3D marble.  This works. But then 3) try the second filter: Morphology->Black Hole.  It does not work on the current 91 version for the PC .  It will work correctly on the .48 version.  Moreover, it locks up so that no future filters will have any effect. Some second filters other than Morphology->black hole do work, others don't. But it isn't limited to just this sequence, I've seen it with others.

Attached are SVG_bug_1 and SVG_bug_2.  SVG_bug_1 creates a box and applies filter "Material-> 3D Marble". Then SVG_bug_2 creates a box and applies filter "Material-> 3D Marble" and then applies the second filter "Morphology->Black Hole".  When one loads either of these two svg files, they do work correctly.  However, when one does this manually without using the SVG, i.e. first creates a box, then applies filter "Material-> 3D Marble" then Morphology->Black Hole", one does not see the same output as in SVG_bug_2.

Thank you for the test case - this report is about the same underlying issue (regression) as already tracked in bug #1425542.

The patch proposed there does also fix the timely update of the rendering of a filtered 3dbox object (a group of 6 paths) after a newly applied preset filter effect was merged into the already applied filter definition (tested with patched Inkscape 0.91+devel r14029).

As workaround for now (instead of downgrading to 0.48.5), you can prevent the merging of filter effects by grouping ('Ctrl+G') the 3dbox after applying each effect (so that new effects applied later on do not get merged into the existing filter effect but applied to the new group wrapped around the object). This method of stacking (or nesting) multiple preset filter effects is not affected by bug #1425542.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.91 r13725 and 0.91+devel r14030 on OS X 10.7.5. Confirmed fixed with patch proposed for bug #1425542.

Linking as duplicate to bug #1425542 (Filter applied on group does not auto redraw when edited) - same underlying issue.
