Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

It would be my pleasure to perform the test. I would like some
assistance so I do not mess up my installation if you would not mind. I
have replaced the kernel one other time and that was several versions
back. So if you would send me some current instructions, I will do the
test. I took a peek at this link and want to make sure I select the
version you have ask me to test. I have limited knowledge of obtaining
members or builds from this and it is always when I am tinkering. I
would prefer the test to be good for both of us, okay?

I should have mention in my email that I have not experienced the
problem that was reported. I assumed a fix had been in the recent
patches and did not even think of this fact until I got your email. I
working on installing the kernel version 3.18. Thanks you.

I installed 3.18 and when the restart had completed I had lost the
cursor. The unity launcher bar would change as I moved the mouse but I
could not see the pointer only an icon would initialize. I could not
move the pointer to make any selections so I restarted and selected 3.16
in the grub menu. I still have 3.18 installed but will have use 3.16 in
order to function for the present time.

Since I rise veery early the first thing I run is sudo apt-get update &&
sudo apt-get upgrade and as you probably know already the update for the
kernel 3.16.23 was included in the daily updates and installed okay. I
still have not had the problem with logging on that was reported and you
wrote to me on Oct 21.

This probably is not much help to you but please let me know what I can
do next, okay?
