Missing dropbox integration [$25]

Upon installing Dropbox, you have no integration with the system at all. There isn't an app indicator, which means you can't easy view and change settings, and the file manager doesn't give any visual info in the folders. I can only check Dropbox status using the command line with "dropbox start/stop/status". This should not be happening since a lot of people rely on Dropbox.

Try: export DROPBOX_USE_LIBAPPINDICATOR=1, then restart dropbox. Worked for me. (from https://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=119127#post-624114)

This didn't work for me. I think that uses libappindicator, but that package doesn't exist in Freya. Maybe that's the problem?

Nevermind, it's with the name libappindicator1. Still, it isn't working for me

It just doesn't go for me.. Are you using Freya or Luna?

Same issue for me in Freya. The solution given above (setting DROPBOX_USE_LIBAPPINDICATOR to 1) seems to work. I guess it could be added to the session settings to fix the problem.

Just noticed that there's still an issue, though: while the indicator now appears, the Pantheon Files integration doesn't seem to work. I.e. there are no emblems on the Dropbox folder & subfolders showing the synchronization status.

Setting DROPBOX_USE_LIBAPPINDICATOR to 1 didn't change anything for me. Using Freya and still no Dropbox icon although dropbox is working fine in the background.

Strange. It works now for me.

I downloaded newest deb for ubuntu from dropbox site (x86).

Installed 'libappindicator1'.

And added 'export DROPBOX_USE_LIBAPPINDICATOR=1' in my '/etc/profile' file.

Does it work like that for any one else?

Have tried all of the previous suggestions (on elementary OS 0.3 Freya (64-bit)) but still no app indicator. Can use command line and Dropbox is running just no app indicator!
