I have a similar problem I think. I use a dual monitor setup, with one in portrait mode, so because of that the order monitor have a lower vertical resolution, with is ok, but in freya beta 1, the black parts on this print screen its not unaccessible ( http://postimg.org/image/nk1r60n6f/full/ ), I can actually go with my mouse there even though I cant see.

And theres another problem that is pretty clear on the image, theres a "black hole" between the monitors, I tried to correct that using the display config, but I just got the error that is partially showed on the screen.

you can reproduce it if you have a 4:3 and 16:9 screen. In trusty this is not a problem.

So this bug only happens if you have two or more monitors with different aspect ratios?

Can't confirm it here on a 2x Full HD Intel Graphics Laptop
The Loginscreen always shows in mirrored mode for me, and there's no way to change that

@Dante003: of couse it will have a blank area between the two screens if you place them apart like that, that is not a bug, but a feature so you can add a blank space and align screens to the real world. Snap the screen to the other one and it'll go away.

Changing to confirmed since phillip can confirm, but jamie cannot. Can we get someone else to confirm it happens with two different aspect ratio displays?

@Fabian Thoma I tried that, but when I tried to align then and close the gap, that error screen that is on the printscreen appears.

When I connect my notebook (1366x768) to my Full HD (1080p) Monitor , I think the login area has the size of the notebook's resolution and the rest of the screen is black (black bar at the right and the bottom of the monitor)

Reproducible, although I'm not sure the display is mirrored.
It appears as my mains display, aligned to top left as if it were the same resolution
cutting off the right side and adding a black bar to the bottom.

In line with George Sofianos (georgesofianosgr) report, the secondary screen(s) seem to show the resolution of the primary monitor.

yeah, same here. With Ubuntu you see the ubuntu-logo on one monitor maybe we can do this in elementary too?

I can confirm too.

Laptop 1366 X 768
2 X 24" External displays 1920 X 1080

Even with the laptop display turned off, the dual external monitors (one of which is primary) only shows the login screen on the top left corner (extending about 2/3 the screen, on both displays)

laptop monitor + external 21:9 monitor. On login screen resolution is 1024x768 on the 21:9 (which is pretty pixelated). When logged in everything fine on 2560x1080

Using the final version of freya, the only problem now is that its not using the video configs from the user (not showing on my primary monitor, and not rotating on the second one).

Hey guys,

I have the same as Quicksilvr on ubuntu with dual monitor intel onboard chip.
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/1498463
see the screen shots. greeter picks monitor0 which is in quicksilvr case non of the external monitors ( laptop monitor)
which is not 1920x1080 but 1366x768. this is what you get. displaying 1366x768 on a 1920x1080 monitor

the other guy who has problems with landscape and patriout view is another bug imo.

I had the same issue.

With the latest updates (and HWE kernel) only the main screen shows the login and the other are black.

So this should be fixed.

Can you confirm that?

Because is might be related, I'll also report the rotation on the lock screen being the same as the rotation setting of the main screen. It happened to me as my secondary screen was in a vertical setup (90° rotation).

Together with Ryan Miller I managed to workaround bug regarding greeter screen not displaying on primary screen. Solution is in the last comment: https://gist.github.com/RyanMillerC/c48d9f63f8fe386b22a7da18cf6913d2
This should help people using notebooks with connected external monitors.
