Bug Description
I just bought an Officejet Pro 8610 because of the Linux support. My system is Ubuntu 12.04.4, so I installed HPLIP 3.14.6 using the installer. I haven't been able to get the duplexer to work properly using the HPLIP driver.
I have set up the printer twice using the Ubuntu "New printer" wizard. It is found and installed ok using the "HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP)" option over the network, and printing/scanning works fine--but only single-sided. The "Duplexer installed" option is enabled in the properties.
I created a two page document in Libreoffice and went to print. The Officejet 8610 is selected by default, and I click "Properties" to select double-sided. I can select double-sided, click "Ok", then "Print", and both pages print properly but single-sided. I noticed that if I select double-sided in Properties, click Ok, then go back into Properties, the dialog has reset to the default (single-sided). It's also worth mentioning that I can't select Duplex at all unless I change the Paper size from "Letter" to "Letter AutoDuplex". The Libreoffice dialog does show "Duplexer Installed" = Enabled under the Print > Properties > Device tab.
I also tried from Evince, the PDF viewer. There I can't select to print double-sided even if I change the paper size to "Letter AutoDuplex".
Duplex has worked the odd time that I tried, but not in a way that's reproducible. I've gone through a lot of paper trying to figure this out.
Also reproduced on ubuntu 14.04 with HPLIP 3.14.4. The duplexer initially worked with gutenprint + the system provided HPLIP 3.14.3 Officejet 8600 PPD, but I installed 3.14.4 so the scanner would work. I then uninstalled HPLIP 3.14.4, re-installed the HPLIP 3.14.3 from apt, and tried gutenprint again and now it won't duplex either.
