[HP 2133, Analog Devices AD1984A] No sound from speakers, headphones work

Bug Description

When I play back audio, I get only sound from headphones, not from the built-in speakers. I'm sure that speakers aren't muted; see the attached screenshot of my desktop's audio output control panel (its meter shows activity, so audio playback seems to pass).
Also, I have been able to get sound with LUbuntu 14.04 (I'm on XUbuntu but I had the same problem with the Ubuntu Live DVD).

Thanks for looking into this
Andreas Zapf

Are you trying to get sound out of speakers and headphones at the same time? If so, you could probably achieve that by disabling automute in alsamixer:

Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Enabled'
  Item0: 'Enabled'

Changed in alsa-driver (Ubuntu):

@Daniel: Thanks for the quick response! Speakers are silent regardless whether headphones are plugged in. In alsamixer, I can see that speakers get muted when I plug in headphones (and unmuted when I unplug them). This is exactly what I want (of course, the speakers should sound when unmuted).

I had exactly the same problem with Lubuntu 14.10 and HP2133. I was able to workaround by using program HDAJackRetask of package also-tools (including GUI).
I used as settings see attachment, and then got sound on speakers.

The interesting thing is, that even after removing this settings, the sound works perfectly now.
So in fact no confguration files have changed and now it works.

EDIT

I think that my post #7 was a wrong conclusion.

I was now able to get sound by following procedure described in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1265611
