It is up to cupsd to set this correctly when the PPD is set. It sounds like your system locale is wrong.

Normally CUPS sets up the paper size using /etc/papersize.
Can you attach the output of the printingbug info script, it can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript.

Ok i'v attached output of printingbuginfo.

/etc/papersize don't exist
i'v a /etc/papersize.dpkg-inst that contain "a4"

If i copy papersize.dpkg-inst to papersize all is ok :) so it's not cupsys problem. But i don't find who is the default package

/etc/papersize is provide by libpaper1 package, this package should be installed on your system since cupsys depends on it.
Check the output of "dpkg-query -l libpaper1 | grep ii".
The /etc/papersize.dpkg-inst file looks like some upgrading issue, did you upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy?
Does running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1" create /etc/papersize again?

kagou@satori:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1
Not replacing deleted config file /etc/papersize
kagou@satori:~$

I don't know if it's me that i'v first removed /etc/papersize but i think that dpkg-reconfigure should recreate it no ?!

I'm waiting for Tribe5 to re-test this bug.

I can add that the problem occured on the dd before rebooting from the live session.

How can we know who have deleted a file ?
How can we know who is deleting /etc/papersize during installation ? (ubiquity --debug have no usefull informations for this bug)

This is surely a ubiquity bug rather than libpaper. (ubiquity does try to configure libpaper, but clearly gets it wrong ...)
