Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

When upgrading from Kubuntu Edgy to Feisty, I received an error message that I needed to free at least 319MB disk space for /var/cache/apt/archives. So, I created /home/apt on a file system with 33GB available space, pointed /var/cache/apt at /home/apt and re-ran adept_updater. It still reports the problem. How can I work around the problem? Thank you very much.

Thanks for your report. Do you have used Adept to upgrade to Feisty or update-manager?

Thank you for the response. I don't remember whether I was using adept or update-manager (I think adept, because I was running Kubuntu, but I can't be sure). I think finally accomplished the upgrade with aptitude.

Are you able to complete this dist-upgrade? I suppose that your link to /home/apt creates some problem to apt. May be aptitude hasn't this problem. However, please empty apt cache with command sudo apt-get clean, when you need disk space for upgrade.

Yes, I was able to complete the upgrade (I am a Linux user since 1999, a computer professional for over 30 years, and very comfortable with command line tools). However, this was a home PC - we all run Linux at home - and I was hoping that the consumer GUI based upgrade process would be simple and smooth.

In any case, thank you very much for your response. If you are able to fix the issue, it will make [K]ubuntu work better for its target consumer.
