By the way, I'm confirming and marking as "affects me too" even though my actual situation is that I'm upgrading from 13.04, not 12.10. The error message is identical, though. Is that ok?

@Waldir, no as the error message is vague and log files need to be examined to discover the exact problem. Please report a new bug using 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader'.
