Was duped to 151311, but the patch to fix that one doesn't fix this one. However, we probably just need a quirk added with that patch.

Wow, your monitor reports itself as having a size of 1cm x 1cm.

Unfortunately we don't yet have a quirk for this case. Maybe this bug should go upstream?

Am I correct in reading that it's reporting its physical dimensions to be 1cm x 1cm? What combination of quirks is required to get this working correctly?

xserver ends up picking 1024x768 and messing up the DPI.

If you are having issues with stupid large fonts on your login screen, I recently found this on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786963.

I tried it and it worked beautifully! Life is good!

In your /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file you will see a section like the following:

[server-Standard]
name=Standard server
command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0

Add a dpi to it... the example was 96 and like I said, it worked great. That was the last great Ubuntu mystery for me, I am off to learning more and getting away from Winders.

[server-Standard]
name=Standard server
command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96

Hope this helps someone.

This should normally have been caught by a checksum, at least nowadays.

Tcl70, can you please try a recent version of Ubuntu?

Tcl70, my Samsung LNA650 HDTV also shows huge fonts, for some applications but not others. This TV also reports a ridiculous size. The fix is to tell X to ignore the bogus EDID from the television.

I found this to work, at least with my nvidia graphics card:

Section "Monitor"
       Identifier "Samsung" # LNA650

# from Samsung manual, for 1920x1080p:
# HorizSync 67.500

I found this to work, at least with my nvidia graphics card. Edit the X configuration with "gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf", then restart to test:

Section "Monitor"
       Identifier "Samsung" # LNA650

# from Samsung manual, for 1920x1080p:
# HorizSync 67.500
# VertRefresh 60.000

        Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
        Option "DPI" "100 x 100"
EndSection

Change the "Samsung" appropriately.
