Bug Description

If I connect to my university wifi (WPA/WPA2 enterprise, tunneled TLS, MSCHAPv2), after a short while I am disconnected and automatically connected again (~2 seconds connected, ~7 seconds disconnected).

I will attach the output in syslog. At 14:36:30 the connection is established the first time. Then at 14:36:53 the interface is disconnected and at 14:36:59 connected again. This goes on without end.

Ping shows the above mentioned timings:
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1694 ttl=49 time=8.22 ms
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1695 ttl=49 time=55.5 ms
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1702 ttl=49 time=8.31 ms
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1703 ttl=49 time=8.40 ms
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1711 ttl=49 time=9.61 ms

64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1719 ttl=49 time=8.36 ms
64 bytes from bk-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.69.94): icmp_req=1720 ttl=49 time=8.66 ms

This error only occurs, when I'm "connected" to the university network. At home I don't have any problems.
I also tried different wifi interfaces, its the same:

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I had problems installing the mainline kernel:

run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 3.10.0-031000rc6-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.10.0-031000rc6-generic
ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-3.10.0-031000rc6-generic is not supported
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.10.0-031000rc6-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/bcmwl/6.20.155.1+bdcom/build/make.log for more information.

I will try the daily saucy build with the most recent mainline kernel and report the result.

I already run the latest BIOS:

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A17
03/07/2013

I updated the BIOS directly after installing Ubuntu (because of other problems I had), so I can't tell if the Wifi problem was existent in previous BIOS versions.

Martin Schröder, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Raring?

I can't really tell, because I didn't use this particular notebook with 12.10 inside my University. Before, I had a different notebook and it worked fine with all versions up to 12.10 (concerning wifi). (Then it broke and I had to replace it.)

Martin Schröder, for regression testing purposes, could you please test for this in Precise via http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ and report the results?

I tried ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso from usb. After installing the proprietary driver, everything worked fine: no disconnections.

Martin Schröder, consolidating the report focus, which WiFi device specifically works in Precise, the Atheros USB stick, and/or the internal Broadcom?

It worked in Precise with internal Broadcom card. I didn't check the Atheros stick. In Raring neither of both works correctly.

It does not work in Quantal (same symptoms). I attached the syslog.
I did logger to mark the notifications of network-manager in the syslog:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "Before connection"
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "connected"
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "reconnecting..."
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "connected"

Environment was Ubuntu 12.10 quantal live usb with bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb manually installed.

Martin Schröder, thank you for testing Quantal. To help narrow this down to either kernel or bcmwl-kernel-source, could you please test in Precise the Raring kernel via https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ppa/+build/4722689 ?
