It does not work in Quantal (same symptoms). I attached the syslog.
I did logger to mark the notifications of network-manager in the syslog:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "Before connection"
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "connected"
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "reconnecting..."
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ logger "connected"

Environment was Ubuntu 12.10 quantal live usb with bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb manually installed.
