We're really going to need a backtrace for this one. Please follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to produce one for us. Thanks!

I tried as the page said, coreutils-dbgsym installed and everything, but:

Strange that you couldn't get gdb to work...

Could you try it again; and this time, add the line "file /usr/bin/id" before "run"?

Thanks very much.

I've just merged a couple more dupes in here; but they are either 7.04 or 7.10 - is anyone still having this problem?
Also it's a bit of an odd bug - can people please describe the machine they are running it on and if there was anything
else unusual about their install?

A couple of them are polish installs, but there is at least one US English case.

The bug just dissappeared for me at some point... I had all forgotten about this!

Nothing special about my installation... If I remember correctly, I was using 7.10 alpha version. At least the locale was Finnish UTF-8. I remember seeing the bug even when using the live CD, and after installation and updates of that time, too. I silently blame the early alphas for the bug.

I wish I had time to grab the 7.10 CD and put it to test... Mabye later this week...

Everyone seems to be saying it's disappeared sometime since the 7.x era - please reopen if you see it again, preferably with a backtrace and info on which locale you are in.
