X session and all applications crash when clicking on the inkscape page

On Xubuntu 12.10 with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 r9886 (Jan 29 2013):
Inkscape opens as a small window, when extending this window the rendering is slow. Then, when I click on the blank page, all my running softwares are closed, the x session crashes, I briefly see the shell with an [OK] on right top corner of the screen. Then I can log in with my usual session, but the keyboard layout has changed to an azerty one (originally a qwerty). When I access my session, everything is like if I just booted up my computer.
I tried to trigger this behavior by launching Inkscape installed from packages in a qemu-kvm virtual machine running Xubuntu 12.04. The same thing happened... on the host session (as in the previous case even if the action is done in the vm).

Unlikely an Inkscape bug - more likely related to or a duplicate of

@Bpetit - can you confirm that the reported issue is the same as bug #1081108 (triggered by disabling the touchpad)?

Please add a comment here (bug #1179708) and revert the duplicate status if you disagree, or have additional information indicating that the two issues are different after all and need to be tracked separately.
