Bug Description

Hello,

The bug is as follows:

If I try and switch the luminosity setting of my laptop my CPU goes to 100% usage for 3-10 minutes, and the luminosity notification in unity (the one in the top right corner) flashes for the same amount of time.

I am not sure if it is a linux bug or how to trace it. Please help.

My laptop is an MSI EX705-X.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I should probably say, temporally, this issue did not appear until probably 11.04.

The issue was not fixed. and it is very upsetting. I will do anything to help debugging this, but I need guidance.

On an unrelated note, it seems that changing the kernel to v3.8-rc4 made "suspend" actually resume from the sleep state.

Very important observation: When the lock screen is activated (after a screensaver, or manually from the system menu), it stops manifesting!

I am guessing it has something to do with Unity?

Unity has nothing to do with that notification bubble and I don't know the correct project to target.

This is aimed at the Linux package and not Unity.
