Thanks for the report Toby!

Should I understand from the report is that the "locate music folder" option from the welcome screen is not working properly?

Noise should automatically import all the music located in the standard music directory.

Changed in noise:
status: New → Incomplete

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the "locate music folder" is not
working correctly in Noise on my computer (Pantheon desktop, Ubuntu 12.04).
The top of the screen reads "Importing music from /home/..." but nothing
happens. I let the program run for 12 hours. Not a hint of movement in
importing anything. in addition, I expected the same thing to happen (not
being able to locate/import music) when I installed Beatbox, but, BAM! All
of my music imported to Beatbox in a flash.

I want to use Noise in Elementary Luna (when I move from Ubuntu) but if I
have to use Beatbox, I'll take it, no problem. It would be nice to have
Noise, though.

Thanks for the information Toby.

I would like to see the debug output. Could you please run "noise -d" from a terminal, copy the text, and mail it to me (or paste it here) when you have some time?

That certainly helps!

There are some files in your music folder that Noise (and most probably every other application out there) cannot read due to restricted read permissions. Try fixing the file permissions from Pantheon Files or Nautilus.

I will write a patch to make Noise skip those files and avoid the unnecessary freezing. Thanks again!

I don't know if this can help, but I have tested that if you open noise with administrator priviledges ("sudo noise" in terminal) you get to import the music and to play it. But if you open it as your normal user, you can't import any music (even you can open single songs from it, for example, with "open with -> noise" in nautilus.

I've seen anyway that my user has priviledges over the folder, so I can't figure out why this issue is happening. Hope you make it work soon cause it looks awesome!

I could make it find my music folder by a workaround. My OS "didn't know" the correct address to my music and Noise didn't manage to find it. In Ubuntu-tweak, I setted the correct address to music (it was said that my music was straight in home while it actually is in home > Music). When I open back Noise, it automatically found my music and imported it.

It seems to me something is broken in preferences and you can't effectively tell the problem where to search for your music. So, if you don't have the default settings and your music is right there in your home folder, you won't make it found it. But if you correct those default settings, he will just see they are there, where he has been looking all the time, where ubuntu or elementary is telling him that the music is.

Still have some issues, the album art are too separated between them and barely can see two albums in a row in my widescreen laptop, but I guess that's something of ubuntu.

Good luck!

I don't think this was ever fixed. My music files are located on a different partition than that one elementary is installed on, but Noise always defaults to /home/username/. I can't cancel the import operation and the "change music folder" doesn't respond to anything. I've tried to go into preferences and change the music folder location, but that does not work either. Any thoughts?

I too am experiencing this again. My music is simply in ~/Music. I can import the folder manually, but it ignores most of the music and only imports maybe 20 songs.

I had the same problem.

I solved with dconf Editor.

Go to Section:
org -> pantheon -> noise -> settings.

Edit the folder of music: music-folder.
Change the folder / home / user on / home / user / Music

and ready :)

To install dconf Editor: apt-get install dconf-tools.

I hope they work.
