I do not see any menu even when using libreoffice-write in gnome-shell desktop.
The workaround is to downgrade to the 3.6.0 rc4 version.

Upgraded to libreoffice 1:3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu3 which doesn't solve this issue.

LibreOffice does not respect disabling of the globalmenu (UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0) but still draws the menubar in the Unity panel. This in turn (or other missing check) leaves other shells, e.g gnome classic, without an LO menubar,

1:3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu3 : cant upgrade it without removing previous version on gnome-classic.

The good news is that 3.6.1 is out and works well (tested by few users). So its time to drop these rc versions.

The #9 comment above is about a gnome-classic session.

I've switched to an unity session:
- opened a calc spreadsheat
- good news: the calc menu exist into an unity session (sadly it is an autohide menu by default, which is irrating)
- bad news: sorting data only works the first time, then the drop down menu lines are greyed. The spreadsheat have to be closed then reopened to get back actived lines drop down menu.

So libreoffice is still not usable with unity. (lo-menubar not installed)

Unity session:

after having lo-menubar installed, the data sorting menu issue described into #10 above is resolved with calc.

dino99, I would report as a new bug the issue that you have without lo-menubar.

I believe the intention is to remove lo-menubar (http://www.iloveubuntu.net/ubuntu-1210s-libreoffice-gained-built-appmenu-support-without-lo-menubar)

Note about using calc with Lubuntu:

what i have discovered:
- calc has no menu bar, thats it
- the menu bar can be displayed if the libreoffice meta-package is installed

That seems an upstream design, but its bad if an user only wants to install/use a single app like calc.

Partly solved by LO 3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu5.

The menubar still is displayed in the unity panel when the globalmeny is disabled using UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0.

Workaround for Unity with globalmeny disabled:
- remove all appmenu packages.
