I am also facing this issue. The notebook is a Lenovo G470, but the hardware is basically the same, including the sound card. The microphone does not work on Skype nor on gnome-sound-recorder. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit version here.

I installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1002978/+attachment/3200653/+files/alsa-hda-dkms_0.1_all.deb , which made the microphone work on Skype, but then the output sound became really noisy and polluted and I decided to uninstall it (the sound was noisy only on Skype).

I have also followed the instructions on bug 1002978 and certified that the problem is an inverted microphone.

It sounds like something is being done to fix the Conexant CX20590 HD Audio CODEC integrated microphone bug, but when I just tested it with Skype 4.0, the microphone still doesn't work.
I used Lenovo G570 (Intel platform) for testing.
