open up a bunch of terminal windows or any other application, focus on one of them and press alt+`` two backticks (key above tab) the first one will take you to the last window you had focus on, the second one brings you back to the one you were on before pressing anything, rather than the expected second-to-last window, so alt+`` is a null operation.
