I do understand the issues you are stating. Please feel free to do
either way, the only thing that concerns me is that it should be a
usable theme which could have some sort of trigger (some keyboard
shortcut or something) that would change into a highly accessible one
and the rest of the time behaves like a normal theme. Is that possible
?

That would perhaps be a good solution although perhaps the programming
skills & time required may be more. Again just a suggestion.
