Need to hear from Ben Skeggs, or someone who knows what nouveau needs and what it's not getting. I know enough to get into trouble.

There may be just enough info in the BIOS for the proprietary Windows Nvidia driver to function correctly, whereas it wouldn't surprise me if nouveau needs more information because it's not in as much a position to make assumptions about hardware as either Apple or Nvidia. Pure speculation on my part. But it is consistent with Apple's minimalist approach to supporting Windows, UEFI and even BIOS.
