It looks as if this bug has still found its way into Xubuntu 18.04.3 on a 32-Bit system. I just encountered it on an IBM ThinkPad R52:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release: 18.04
Codename: bionic
$ uname -rm
5.3.0-28-generic i686
$ apt-cache policy parole
parole:
  Installiert: 1.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Installationskandidat: 1.0.1-0ubuntu1

        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
$

However, if I start parole from a command line like this

$ parole
Protocol error: bad 3 (Window); Sequence Number 5
 Opcode (20, 0) = GetProperty
 Bad resource 2486638663 (0x94371847)

I can manually select the DVD and show the video recorded on it.

By the way: In some related postings the discussion is about running 'parole --xv false'.

However with today's system there is no such option (any more):

$ parole --xv false
Unbekannte Option --xv
parole --help eingeben, zum Anzeigen aller verfügbaren Befehlszeilenoptionen
