Well, then my detailed diagnosis was incorrect; however, the main part was: it doesn't work. zeitgeist-daemon and zeitgeist-datahub start with "#! /usr/bin/python", while config.log contains:
PYTHON=
which gets forwarded to Makefile as
PYTHON = /usr/pkg/
