thx for our advise, on the journey to find a solution to this S3 problem I put it in because of same reading in thinkwiki.

I tried a short test run without xorg.conf bz moving it out of the way.
the laptop also come back to X without problems.
but additional I need the xorg.conf because of some keyboard and trackpoint settings

I attach the xorg.0.log file from this test

also additional I refer to the package of xserver-xorg-video-ati version 1:6.6.3-2ubuntu6 I use.
This is the only one where no hang on switch to VT.
with newer version I got the hangs on switch and S3.
Also I interessed in why this not happend in hibernate?
