Using Ubuntu on a IBM Thinkpad X24, since I upgraded to Gutsy, I can't switch back to X11 from VT any more: it completely freeze the computer (does not even answer to ping anymore, cannot sysrq, etc.), thus, I can't suspend any more (which is the *big* drawback for me).

I tried quite recent git builds (packages from http:// ppa.launchpad. net/tormodvolde n/ubuntu/ pool/main/ x/xserver- xorg-video- ati/ thus corresponding to driver "version" 6.7.197+ git20080108. fa3e2055 ) with no luck.
I also tried many xorg.conf tweaks (disabled almost everything).
Note there is a bug report on Ubuntu launchpad tracker: /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ xserver- xorg-video- ati/+bug/ 148408
