Also, the above is especially strange, because exult normally _decreases_ the normal resolution, to 800x600 or 640x480, and the speed increases rather alot. I think synaptics might be scaling speed with 'real' pixels, instead of 'logical' pixels.
Granted, it doesn't seem to happen in gnome 3, if you change to 800x600 so maybe it's something else.
