I have the same problem with the 10.04 version of Wubi, running under Windows 7 Home Premium. It looks to me like the underlying engine (cairo?) is failing to do the sub-pixel rendering properly (e.g. picking the wrong pixel order). I have an LCD screen, and no CRT to test on to see if the same occurs there.
