Okay, I've reinstalled Wubi from NTFS per recommendations in bug 252900, and the problem hasn't reappeared yet. Perhaps the issue here is due to installing from FAT32.

I don't know how you want to triage this, but once a workaround for an install from FAT32 is found as pertains to bug 252900, this issue may surface again.

I would recommend leaving this issue open for a week or two while I test my new install for reversion. If nothing further surfaces, I won't mind if it's closed.
