"It is known when it is safe to mount ntfs partitions ?" Yes, I know up to Windows7 : it is safe when Windows7 is shut down and not hibernated. For Windows8, the only thing I can tell is : if is safe when hibernation and fast boot are disabled. Maybe there are other safe conditions, but I do not know anybody who knows. "The presents of hiberfil.sys file indicates that that particular partition is hibernated." That was true up to Windows7, but Windows8 brings new contents for hiberfil.sys and their meaning is not known to me.
