Bug Description

I tried resolving this issue in post:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1986531

and re-iterated below:

I followed the installation instructions at:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/...u-with-windows

In Step 3 it states "...To install Ubuntu, all you need to do is choose your user name and password..."

so I entered a username [not equal to Administrator as shown and set to "gmseed"] and password.

However, when I complete installation and reboot the m/c I'm faced with either logging on as "Administrator" or "Guest Session". I found this very confusing.

You may view this as not a bug but if a user enters a username such as "gmseed" they expect it to be listed at startup. Also, it's using my "gmseed" user account password as the "Administrator" password.

I've not continued with this issue because of another bug of the CPU fan continually overruning, which I've also logged as a bug. Thus, I've not had a enjoyable Ubuntu installation experience and forced to revert to Win7.

Thanks

Graham

Ubuntu does not use a root account, so your user is automatically given admin permissions when using sudo. Maybe that is confusing you? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

At step 3 of the Windows Installer series of steps why does the installer provide a "username" textfield and allows a user to enter in this case "gmseed" if it assigns the username "Administrator" to it at startup? I don't think this question is related to RootSudo link.

If you entered gmseed as your username then that is what your username would be. At a terminal login that's what you'd have to enter. Your home directory will be /home/gmseed. What you are seeing at the logon screen is the Real Name on the account and that shows on your desktop as well.

Wubi logic is to take the Windows user account (which allows uppercase) as the real name, and the entered username as the username (but it defaults to the lower case windows account name). This works well when your Windows user name is John, and you select "john" as your username. But may be confusing when you use an administrator account to install on. It's really easy to change the Real name on the account.
