The new indicator "breaks" the behaviour of some apps

Bug Description

For example, Mailnag can't show a permanent entry and still some notifications tend to dissapear 'because reasons', so an option to "pin" a notification of certain apps (and updating that single entry instead stacking all the new ones at the top) could solve these cases.

Hello,

What do you understand by "permanent entry"? Is this feature implemented in a way which conforms to the freedesktop spec [1]? I tried searching "resident" in the mailnag source code and I cound not find that keyworld.

Can you give more information about these disappearing notifications? If you can't help us understand the issue, there's no way we can guess what is happening.

I tried searching "replaces_id" in the mailnag source code and I could not find that keyword - that would allow mailnag to replace a those notifications.

Actually, this is more a feature request than a bug report, but I preferred to explain what I think lacks it instead to come just with a request.

This should conforms the free desktop spec somehow because it's how work mailnag in the old messaging indicator (having its own entry in the menu), but my suggestion is more about how the indicator handle certain notifications than the notifications itself.

And about the disappearing notifications I refer to this bug [1]. I'm quite sure there is more reasons that makes certain notifications disappears, but I still can't figure out the exact way to reproduce it.

Mailnag can still have its own entry in the menu, it just needs to emit a notification and then use the "replaces_id" property to continuously update that notification. Please bring this to the attention of the developer.

However, it doesn't make sense that Mailnag have a notification in the indicator list if there is nothing to notify about - and we would like to discourage non-standard usages of features as this brings fragmentation over the Linux desktop ecosystem.

I see what you mean. I have just managed to reproduce that bug by minimizing one application. If it's important that this bug gets fixed, consider posting a bounty: https://www.bountysource.com/teams/elementary/bounties
