Looking at this and the upstream bugreport you didn't use the Ubuntu Wine packages, but wine-staging from upstream (since only the latter allows to even install StarCraft Brood War). Therefore closing for "Wine in Ubuntu".
Not sure if this is a regression in other parts of Ubuntu, or something else, though.
