Another possibility would be to read the image off the device following the write and generate a md5 for that - possibly faster due to more efficiency reading the entire image vs small chunks?

Well, while we look into this, we should also optimize the read/write function. I plan on doing some benchmarking soonish (in a month or so - kind of busy now). I need to test read/write speeds compared to Linux, as I can control the Linux side fairly easily.

If the rates turn out the same, then we're stuck with the current read speeds.

Verify functionality has been committed and will be in the next release. On my test systems, it is slightly faster than reads (as expected).
