for me it happens in 3 of 4 attempts.
Maybe it is related to which map position I have moved the view,
- - or that I do nothing than waiting.

Does bzr provide something similar to git bisect?
(Importing widelands (with git clone bzr::lp:widelands) into git takes
a lot of time. And then it fails.)
