Bug Description

It seems with the latest unstable nuvolaplayer, neither Grooveshark nor Pandora will load due to what debug thinks is a flash issue. Please advise...

GtkLauncher (GTK2) with Google Play

Google Play Music page is only partially rendered (see attached screenshot of GtkLauncher) if Flash plugin is installed (version 11.1.102). It affects only GTK+ 2 port (GTK+ 3 port works fine). I've tried version 1.7.91 from Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 and nightly r111120 tarball (with ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-gtk=2.0 --enable-introspection), the bug is reproducible with both versions on my 64bit machine. This issue was not present in version 1.6.3.

The bug is not specific to Google Play, it also affects Grooveshark (http://grooveshark.com) (and maybe other websites using flash).

Reproducibility also depends on size of the window (less reproducible with a default window size, more reproducible if window is maximized before entering affected website).

I'm increasing priority according to Bug Reporting Guidelines ("If you know the bug is a regression, ie. something is wrong which wasn't wrong in previous versions of WebKit, you can set this to P1.").

Is the issue present also in stable version 1.0.5?

Simply, the page loads as if the flash plugin was not enabled in firefox/chrome

Well, it seems to be a duplicate of the bug #958154, although Pandora has different symptoms than other services, which confused me. See comment 26 of that bug for partial workaround.

No longer a duplicate of bug #958154, because symptoms are different. However, I believe both issues are caused be the same WebKitGTK+ bug.

Already reported in a duplicate (bug #984022).

Neither Firefox nor Chrome use buggy WebKitGTK+ 1.8.

See comment 26 of a bug #958154 for (partial) workaround.

From bug #948382 : Google Play shows error message "Oops, we have a technical issue" because of uninitialized Flash plugin.

I had this problem with the latest unstable build of Nuvola, but it was fixed by upgrading the libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 on my system. Version 1.4.3 had the problem, version 1.6.3 doesn't.

Thanks, Adam. Is your system Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot (or its derivative)?

Indeed, Nuvola Player 2.0~unstable with libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 1.4.3 doesn't load Flash, while Nuvola Player 1.1~unstable with libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 1.4.3 does, so package in PPA for Ubuntu Oneiric will be downgraded to series 1.1 :-(

Fix committed to lp:nuvola-player as revision 515. Nuvola Player series 2.0.x now requires libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 >= 1.8.

Unstable build for Ubuntu Oneiric were downgraded to series 1.1.x, beta builds will be downgraded with the next beta release.

It seems the bug is back. For myself, at least. I have issues with Grooveshark and Pandora. Of course, I do have Flash installed. I haven't tried any others, but I did check in Synaptic and I do have libwebkitgtk-3.0. I'm on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.10.

Your issue is caused by an incompatibility between Flash plugin and
libwebkitgtk-3.0. See FAQ #2107.
