I came here to report this because a lot of the podcasts that I've been listening to use HTML in their descriptions.
I think the best way to deal with this is either to sanitize the input from HTML tags, or support at least some subset of HTML tags. I don't know of a GTK way to render other than using WebKitGTK+ (http://www.webkitgtk.org/) which might be a little.. heavy.
