%P in vm-summary-format signals invalid marker, vm 8.1.93a, emacs 22.3.1

The attached mail folder shows the problem. It contains one message with one line of text and, as an attachment, the .vm in use. This file contains just one line which sets vm-summary-line, and works fine. Adding a %P after %a causes vm to fail with an invalid marker message.

There is known problem with the attachment indicator, but I don't get an "invalid marker" message. Can you tell me the message you get exactly? You can look in the *Messages* buffer.

Sorry, my error, it's not "invalid marker", but an invalid type for
a marker:

vm-do-needed-summary-rebuild: Wrong type argument: markerp, 1

To make sure that nothing intervenes, I removed .emacs*,
.gnu-emacs-custom, and .vm*. Then I wrote a .emacs which contained
just (require 'vm) and a .vm with just (setq vm-summary-format "...")

This turns out to be the same problem as the known bug, but it is showing up differently. Here is a quick fix. But you should use it only if you don't use headers-only mode. You don't know what that is, then you are ok.

In vm-mime.el, there is a line

    (vm-retrieve-operable-messages count mlist)

around line 4423. Please comment it out and recompile VM. That should fix the problem.
