Please enable just one local folder in Variety (e.g. /usr/share/backgounds), quit it, then run it with the option "-vvv" - this would increase the verbosity of the log, perform 4-5 attempts to call Next from the menu (now under Image instead of Playback) , set a wallpaper from the wallpaper selector 2-3 times (to see what is different there), then attempt to call Previous 2-3 times and then attach here the longer log file that was generated.
