This bug affects Val(a)ide on Windows Vista too. It seems like a problem connected to the mimetype detection code. Files with .vala extention get the mimetype "application/x-ext-vala" and since it does not begin with "text/*" will val(a)ide try to open the file in an external editor. Same mime type issue does affect .vide files as well.

It wold be so nice with a new binara relase to fix this.
