Ubuntu 14 and 12 vagrant boxes are using vagrant/vagrant username/password and keep updating. So I assume ubuntu team acknowledges that there is demand for vagrant box. There should be more direct communication channel outside of launchpad to reach their decision making process or priority setter person.
