Gabor, are you sure this one is a duplicate?

One is about the changelog text not being translated (#572919), whereas
the other is about the check-new-release-gtk dialog not loading
translations (#775659).

I haven't looked at it in detail, but I thought I'd comment it just in
case.

David: right, after taking a closer look, it seems that only strings from the .ui file are translated in this window, which is not all of them. c-n-r-gtk needs gettext initialization. Sorry for the unnecessary spam.

Actually, do-release-upgrade has the same problem, the branch I just proposed fixes both.

Seems I was wrong and gave the patch too little testing. This is still a problem on Oneiric.
On the left, you can see check-new-release-gtk with untranslated strings in its main window and a notification window, which shows untranslated strings from do-release-upgrade. This latter window shows up translated when update-manager shows it, this is on the right.

Correction: the strings in the popup window are from UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py, not do-release-upgrade.
Anyways, fixing this turned out to be a bigger challenge, so I opened bug #897276.
