Unity Dash freezes Xorg when opened over chrome

Bug Description

Fresh upgrade to 12.04 today.

Unity Dash works fine, but if I attempt to open it when chrome is focused, Xorg freezes.

My setup is pretty standard with the exception that I am running a vertical screen. Identical setup on 11.10 was solid with this same setup, so this must be a regression.

Thank you for your bug report, can you still go to a vt using ctrl-alt-f1 when that happens? could you add your Xorg.0.log(.old) to the bug when you get the issue?

Yeah going to virtual terms works fine, but Xorg is locked hard.

Attached is my Xorg.0.log.old

could you go to a vt then and copy Xorg.0.log, if the session is still running we need the actual log not the .old (which is the one rotated if you had restarted to get back to a working box)

Sorry about the huge delay on this. Have not had a chance to look at this system in a while.

I can confirm this issue. Although for me it is when using Firefox. Specifically, it is when I use the Alt+LeftArrow keys to navigate backward in Firefox but I end up just pressing the Alt key which launches the Dash. At that point Xorg freezes. I've looked over the Xorg.0.log(.old) file after restarting and found no errors in it but maybe there was other information that could be helpful. Also, in my case this error is not consistently reproducible. It seems to happen to me maybe 10% of times I accidentally trigger the Dash.

I'll see if I can reproduce it and post the Xorg.0.log file.

I had this problem again and found an error ("intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device") in the .xsession-errors log file that gave me enough info to locate the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/977804

There is a work around suggestion on that bug that says to CTRL+ALT+F1, then execute "unity --reset". That seems to have allowed me to continue my session. It doesn't solve the issue, but it mitigates the need for a reboot.
