Bug Description

Binary package hint: guake

Since a recent upgrade, the top panel in Natty sits above the top of the guake window, meaning the first couple of lines of the console are not visible.

This is a problem when editing files as the first line is not accessible without full screening the guake window.

See attached screenshot, it's not great, but it does show the problem.

Bug due to the interaction of guake with unity, not sure which is at fault.

please also test with other apps like totem, and see if the same problem happens in that case too. see bug 743621

Here is a temp work around for anyone that this is annoying--this should not be used as a permanent fix.
goto /usr/share/guake/guake.glade
Look for this line:
<widget class="GtkNotebook" id="notebook-teminals">
Under this widget class is a line that looks like this:
 <property name="padding">0</property>
Change the number, in my case to 23. You may have to experiment with this number to get it just right.
Save file and restart guake. This will lower the terminal down a few notches and make it viewable.

Hope that helps till someone figures out the real issue.

Take care.

that does help, though i had to add the line and then edit, only downside is it adds a horrible white border on the top and bottom of guake. i really hope this bug is fixed soon.

I had the line also, but dialed the number back a couple and found the sweet spot so I could see the terminal and not the white bar.

I was in the process of setting this padding property and realised that I no longer have this bug (before setting the padding).

Can anyone else confirm if it's been fixed in a recent update?

It seems to be fixed after upgrade to unity 3.8.4.

Still about one "enter" key out of view. I am using nvidia binary and twinview though. I wonder if that is the difference? I have kept the padding to 23 for now.

The bug seems to be still there: unity version 3.8.6. Does anybody encounter the same problem in unity 3.8.6?

I am running unity 3.8.6, and I don't have the bug. Maybe you've got some old config which is breaking it - tried unity --reset?

for me this problem still exists. This fixes it:

http://guake.org/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions

"Open Compiz Config Settings Manager and enable Place Windows. Then, on Fixed Window Placement tab, add a line in Windows with fixed positions with

Are you experiencing a problem that Quake always displays to the right of the Launcher? I am sorry but I don't have the top panel problem. Apologize for bothering you.

Hi
I'm not an expert but I found a way to mend the problem of unity top panel hidding the first lines of guake (maybe a little naively because it works only for guake).

1. Open /usr/lib/guake/guake.py for edit in geany or gedit
2. Go to line 835
3. Increase the variable "window_rect.y" from 0 to something near 30. After this, the line should be like this:

window_rect.y = 30

That's all. Cheers for all and thanks for so much help in the past.
